Abbreviations for Texts to be Cited in The Faulkner Journal

The editors here list the texts (with designated abbreviations) to which essays published in The Faulkner Journal will refer; the editors ask contributors to use these texts when submitting essays, in order to save time and effort after acceptance. The editors consider these texts the best now available, and will update the list regularly as newly edited texts appear. Since the original texts of These 13 and Doctor Martino are not generally available, the texts in Collected Stories are acceptable. For a useful, if now somewhat outdated, general discussion of textual problems in Faulkner, see James B. Meriwether, "The Books of William Faulkner: A Revised Guide for Students and Scholars," Mississippi Quarterly 35 (1982): 265-81. See also the "Notes on the Text" sections of the various Library of America volumes of Faulkner novels and the introductions to the individual volumes of William Faulkner Manuscripts (44 vols. New York: Garland, 1985).
