Submission Guidelines
Deadline for submissions to our Fall 2010 issue is Friday, September 3, 2010.
Stylus: A Journal of First-Year Writing seeks submissions of papers produced in composition classes by all students currently enrolled in first-year writing courses (ENC1101 or ENC1102) at the University of Central Florida or who were enrolled the previous semester. Any paper written as a regular class assignment in ENC 1101 or ENC 1102 is eligible for publication in this journal.
The editors of Stylus value work that demonstrates an inquiring mind, compelling prose, and original thought. All writing submitted to Stylus should be final, polished copy.
Submissions should be formatted in an MS Word file, 3-20 double-spaced pages, using MLA format. Formats other than MLA may be accepted if appropriate to intended audience and purpose. Initial screening will take place within two weeks of the submission deadline, and final decisions will be made by the editors at the end of each semester.
Students: Please ask your composition instructor to submit your paper to the journal. Send the polished paper to your instructor as an attachment. Include your name, your instructor’s name, course name and number, email address, and a phone number in the body of your email to your instructor. Your instructor will read over your paper, and if approved, it will be forwarded to Stylus for consideration. All submissions must be submitted through an instructor email. Any submissions made directly by the student will be returned and a resubmission by the instructor will be requested.
