Linguistics is the scientific study of language at every level, from sounds and gestures on up to words, sentences, and meaning. Linguists employ scientific methods to investigate the sounds, structures, meanings, uses, and histories of all languages.
The interdisciplinary minor is designed to introduce students to key linguistic concepts and is especially suited for students in English, modern languages, anthropology, computer science, psychology, communication, and for anyone interested in the nature of language.
Linguistics overlaps with many areas of study, and so a Linguistics minor can be useful for students majoring in:
